Beginner’s Guide for Jiu-Jitsu: Mastering the Basics

Getting started can feel overwhelming, but fear not—this beginner's guide will help you navigate the essentials.

Your first Session:
1. Comfortable Attire:
- Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for ease of movement. A moisture-wicking shirt and athletic shorts or leggings are suitable for beginners.
2. Hydration:
- Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during your training session. Hydration is essential for endurance and performance.
3. Open Mind and Willingness to Learn:
- Come to your first session with an open mind and a willingness to absorb new information. Embrace the learning process and be ready to ask questions.
5. Arrive Early:
- Arriving a bit early allows time to familiarize yourself with the academy, meet instructors and fellow students, and warm up properly before class begins.
6. Positive Attitude:
- Approach your first session with a positive attitude and a willingness to challenge yourself. Be prepared for a great learning experience.

Etiquette:
1. Respect Your Training Partners:
- Always treat your training partners with respect. Bowing before and after each practice session is a sign of respect in Jiu Jitsu.
- Communicate openly and listen to your instructor and fellow practitioners.
2. Personal Hygiene:
- Ensure your gi (uniform) is clean before every session.
- Keep your nails trimmed to avoid accidentally scratching your training partners.
3. Stay Humble and Open-Minded:
- Understand that learning Jiu Jitsu is a journey. Embrace the learning process and be patient with yourself.
- Be open to feedback and corrections from your instructor and peers.
Gear
1. Gi:
- A Gi is the Uniform you wear at Jiu-Jitsu. It's important that you choose a well-fitting size and feel comfortable. You can chat with our team to ensure you choose the right gi for you!
2. Belt:
- As a beginner, you'll start with a white belt. Your instructor will guide you on when you're ready to progress to the next belt level.
